How we write, test and review

Holloway tells people where they can legally ride, so accuracy comes first. This is how our reviews, scores, data pages and articles are made, and what we do when something is wrong.

Who writes Holloway

Holloway's articles and reviews are written by Mat Stuckey, who founded and runs Holloway. He has ridden motorcycles for 25 years and green laned for around 8. When someone else's experience is used, such as a rider's recommendations in the directory, they're named on the page.

Affiliate links

Some product links, mainly to Amazon, are affiliate links: if you buy through one, Holloway earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. Pages with affiliate links say so. We choose what to recommend first and add links afterwards, so a link never decides a pick.

Data pages

Lane pages, county guides, national park pages, near-town pages and long-distance lane pages are built automatically from council rights of way records, traffic orders, Ordnance Survey and OpenStreetMap data, and each one says so at the top. The figures on them come from those sources. How we check our lane data explains where each source comes from and the checks we run.

Our rule above all others: we never show a route as open to motorcycles unless its recorded legal status supports it. Where the evidence is unclear, a lane is marked "check before riding" rather than open.

Software and AI

We use software, including AI tools, to build the data pages and to help draft and edit articles. Every article is based on Mat's own riding or on primary sources such as council records, and he checks it before it's published. The legal status, closures and figures on our pages come from the sources above, never from AI.

Corrections

If something is wrong, use Report this lane looks wrong in the app or contact us. We check every report against the council's own records and correct the page once it's confirmed. Legal status can change at short notice, so always check signs and current traffic orders on the day.
